How Dubai Police foiled a $25 million Pink Diamond heist in 8 hours
Dubai Police recently foiled an elaborate attempt to steal a rare 21.25-carat pink diamond valued at $25 million in just eight hours. The operation, codenamed Pink Diamond, led to the arrest of three Asian suspects who had spent over a year planning the heist.
The gang posed as wealthy buyers, using luxury cars, five-star hotels and even a hired diamond expert to win the trust of a Dubai jeweller who had imported the gem from Europe. They eventually lured him to a villa under the pretext of meeting a buyer, then stole the diamond and attempted to smuggle it out of the country in a refrigerator destined for Asia.
Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department quickly identified and tracked the suspects, launching simultaneous raids that led to their arrest and the recovery of the diamond before it left the UAE.
Certified by a leading gemological institute, the pink diamond is classified as Fancy Intense and rated Excellent for clarity, symmetry and polish, with only a 0.01 per cent chance of another like it existing worldwide.
The jeweller praised Dubai Police’s swift response, saying he was astonished at how quickly the case was resolved.
